Twitter @ Region 3 Championships: Recieve flight updates via text message on your cell phone
27 Mar 2009 10:33 AM
We are
excited to announce that we will be trying a new
service this year at our annual Championship event.
Twitter is a microblogging communication service that
allows us to communicate with you via text message on
your cell phone. We hope this will be a great service
for judges, parents and coaches and will make the
Region 3 Championship experience even better. When
you sign up for a free twitter account, you can
choose to "follow" Region3 (our Twitter name) which
means that you will receive, via text message, any
updates we post to the Region 3 account if you choose
to register your cell phone number with twitter to
receive our "tweets". Throughout the meet, we will be
posting when each competition flight and awards
ceremony is starting and you can recieve those posts
via text message so that wherever you are you will
know if the competition is ahead of schedule (Surely
this will be the case) or behind and when each flight
is entering the competition floor.
For more information and to learn how to set up your account, see the Twitter page by clicking on the "R3 Tech" tab on the right.
However, PLEASE NOTE:
1. Because this service is relies on delivering text message, we suggest that you be on an unlimited text message plan with your cell carrier. There will be a number of messages sent out and you do not want to be charged for each one of them. Region 3 is not responsible for any charges incurred for using this service.
2. Because this is the first time we will be trying this service, we suggest that you not rely exclusively on its accuacy. Most "tweets" or messages get delivered within a matter of seconds, be we cannot guarantee that the Twitter service will be running and delivering messages in a timely manner throughout the weekend.
